Operators and Roles
To access Protege X a person needs to be added as an operator of a place. Once the operator is signed in to the place, what they are able to do is determined by the roles assigned to them.
Protege X currently supports three default roles which provide varying levels of operator access.
- Installer: Full access, other than creating or deleting roles and creating, updating or deleting places.
- Master: Access to most programming and maintenance functions.
- User: Limited access to creating, updating and deleting users and schedules only.
Navigate to Roles to view access permissions. Each Protege X system Resource has Create, Update, Delete and Control rights enabled or disabled to define operator access.
- Ensure the correct Place is selected. Operators will be assigned to the current place only.
- Navigate to Admin | Operators.
-
Click Add and enter the operator's details. All fields are required.
- First Name
- Last Name
- The Display Name is automatically populated from the first and last names, but can be customized.
- Customize the Second Language fields if required.
- Email Address
- Company Name
- Click Next: Roles.
- Click Add to assign a role to the new operator. This determines their level of access in the place.
- Select (highlight) the role to assign to the operator, then click Select.
- If your place uses location groups, set the Location Group for the role. This determines which records and events the operator can view, typically based on regional groupings.
-
Click Create to complete the new operator record. This button is not available until all required fields are populated.
If the entered email address is already registered with an active Protege X account the new operator will be able to sign in immediately. If no account exists with that email address an invitation email will be sent and the operator will need to activate their account (see Signing In).
The account must be activated within 24 hours of the email being sent, otherwise the account will be locked. If this occurs you will need to contact ICT Technical Support to have the account unlocked.
